Well, it’s now 4 decades since the internet was first in use. Who would have understood, in those early days, how massive it would become in such a fairly short period?

I recall, as a small child, contemplating how lucky were such people as Alexander Graham Bell, being able to invent the telephone. Others had invented wireless, tv, cinecamera. What was there remaining for such as my generation to think of? It is fortunate for us others had more vision than I did. We now benefit from digital cameras, electronic games, pda’s and many other fantastic items which I could not have dreamed about as a youngster.

On the fortieth anniversary of the internet, it is interesting to view the differences we have encountered in the way PCs are used over this time. In the early days, there was no world wide web, so the internet was not the same as we think of in 2009 when we say we use it.

Not every business had use of computers four decades ago, never mind people having many computers in their home. Even as late as the 1990’s the company where I worked had only one PC which would connect to the web and everyone who worked for the company had to rely on this in order to connect with the internet.

At that time, the concept of using a search engine was an alien concept. Now Search Engine Placement is understood, by both companies and individuals, to be an important part of internet experience. Seo companies have evolved, in order to help companies improve their search engine positioning.

Businesses, likewise, will look for an seo company which they think have the skills to improve their Online Marketing results. They know how vital it is to be on one of the first pages of any search results in order to capture more business and will choose an SEO Company which they understand will give them value for money.

Due to the fact that laptops are these days relatively affordable, many households will have more than one. They are compact, do not require dedicated lots of wires and cables, which look messy. Children find them invaluable for research for homework, using search engines to help in this, whereas others will use them to search for companies which can give them the necessary information for reference purposes, or find companies which will supply to their needs.

Social networking sites have also found their niche, and this is a excellent way for folk to stay in touch with friends, relatives and colleagues in an informal way. Before these came to pass it was much too easy to lose touch with folk when they were no longer in their daily lives.

I am very happy that other folk can come up with inventions to improve my daily life, and this all makes me wonder what we will be seeing four decades from now – things currently in their infancy or not yet even conceived.
