If you’re the proud owner of a website then you should already be aware of how important it is to promote it, but of course, if you don’t even know what you are doing, or how to do it, you can actually cause yourself and your website harm. There are lots of different ways to promote a website, not all of these are good. There are lots of common mistakes that people make when promoting websites and we’re going to look at five of them now…
Spam Free Zone - If you just start sending out unsolicited emails to people, this is not acceptable not for any reason, and you can actually be reported and “sand-boxed” for this. It will make your site untrustworthy and also result in large ISPs blocking your site.. Everyone hates spam just as much as you and it’s doing nothing but destroying your reputation.

Submission - Many people don’t have time to promote their website properly and so may be tempted to turn to the easy route of spending $20 to get their site submitted. The problem is however that there aren’t 100 good search engines out there in the first place, using one of these automated systems can also cause your site a lot of harm. It’s very easy for search engines to find out who has been using the submission services. If you need to use one of these services then ensure that they are genuine and aren’t just taking you for a ride, read reviews and find out what they will do for the money.

Search engine submission- a lot of people may tend to waste their time on low key search engines, but you want to submit your website to major search engines, and directories. Only around 30 of the search engines on the internet are actually worth you submitting your site to, and you should also try seeking out specialized directories which are suited to your site. If your website is talking about makeup then you should find specialist directories which relate to cosmetics.

Submitting to Yahoo - Yahoo is a very important directory, and it’s also one of the hardest to get into, humans read all of the submissions at Yahoo which means that you have to be very careful what you do. You should take your time with your application to ensure that your site gets added as quickly as possible

Ready for Customers - Unless your website is actually open for business, you have no business even trying to submit it! Check that the site is free from spelling errors and works properly before submission. By making sure you are completely ready for customers it will make it much easier to secure sales and inspire confidence.
